Wow, we fit a lot into January! Hence, the lag time in posts lately (sorry family!). Resolution #31: Blog more to keep y'all in the loop.
We started off the month with a family trip to the lake house. It was cold but gorgeous so we spent a lot of time playing outside and snuggling by the fireplace after hours. Landry's new favorite activity there is to kick a ball around our big backyard with Michael. He'll kick it 20 feet in the air and she just thinks it's the coolest most magical thing to watch it fall from the sky.
We had a great time with my mom and Ryan in town. After Ryan left for New York, my mom watched the kiddos so Michael and I could get away to Austin for four days. It was so relaxing after the holiday bustle! We got massages, saw friends, taste-tested Michael's new bar near UT and enjoyed the summer-like weather with several cocktails and meals patioside.
Once we were back in town and family had officially cleared out, it was back to the school and work routine. Landry is back in mommy's day out two days a week, ballet one day a week and now swim lessons.
She started a five-month indoor mommy-and-me program last week to hopefully get her swim savvy by summer. She LOVED the lesson. I thought she would be more hesitant but she was thrilled to be back in the water and watch all of the other kids splashing around. I -- on the other hand -- am not so thrilled to have my pasty booty in a bathing suit in January, but I'll do what it takes to have peace of mind with her around the pool.
We got some super exciting news this week: We got into our top choice for preschool! Starting this fall, Landry will move to the University Park day school and Barrett will start in their mommy's day out program and continue until Kindergarten at Bradfield. This school is nearly impossible to get into -- up until a couple years ago parents used to camp out to get their kids on the list first. Luckily they changed the system (can you really imagine Michael camping -- even if in the Park Cities -- ever?!) and we got some recs from friends already there that helped our chances. So, we have the whole school thing finally figured out which is a huge relief.
The kids are so much fun right now. Landry is turning into a little girl more and more everyday. Her vocabulary and sentence structure is really advancing each week. She loves to paint, sing and take her dolls on walks in her pink baby stroller.
Barrett is a handful! He is on the move constantly. He can scale the stairs solo in two minutes flat. He loves to charge around the kitchen in his push-walker. He's crawling everywhere if not walking. He's not entirely walking on his own yet but will either take several steps or walk around by holding anything in sight -- a hand, cupboard, bar stool, pant leg, etc.
He's officially off formula and eats just about anything. He especially loves avocado, Organics pureed fruit and veggie medleys and oatmeal. He has four teeth an his hair -- which is white blond -- is finally starting to fill in. His favorite activities are kicking balls (while holding some body's hand), jumping on our mini trampoline and being pushed around outside in his red car.
Things are great for Michael and me. We're both really busy at work right now. I'm gearing up for the March 7th flea as well a big install in mid March and early May. I'm having my first flea shop at the event and combing markets for cool merchandise. This week my friend Kym and I hit Canton and scored tons of goodies for the shop.
Amid the chaos, Michael and I have carved time out for fun. Last Saturday, we did a professional family photo session chock full of music and mimosas (photos coming soon). Later that day we had a wedding for one of Michael's best friends and made a staycation out of the occasion with two other couples that ended with a big Sunday brunch. (First nanny overnight was a big success; more staycations to come!).
Today were just hanging out with the kids for a lazy Super Bowl Sunday at home. Looking forward to staying in my jammies all day with my favorite people.
