10 weeks and sunnies

Yesterday I had my 10 week appointment.  I never had an appointment with my regular doctor between weeks 8 and 16 with Landry (due to the toxo scare) so I wasn't sure what to expect.

It was very quick.  She hooked me up to a machine to hear the heartbeat and got the little bean's pitter-patter in two seconds flat. She had warned me beforehand that about half the time they can't locate it with the machine at this stage but baby #2 was very cooperative!

It was thrilling and a relief to hear the sweet -- and super fast! -- sound.  It always makes it so real to hear that sound.  With Landry I was so aware of being pregnant but this time around I'm so busy working and being a mom that I don't reflect on the fact that I have a growing baby in my belly as often.

In two weeks I have the genetic testing appointment.  There's a chance we can find out the sex at that one (that's when we found out with Landry); if not then we'll find out at my 18 week appointment.  Lately I've been feeling boy vibes but who knows...

When I got home from my appointment I took Landry on a walk in her wagon and then we practiced walking outside until Michael got home.

Crazy curls!

This week has been a bit nuts.  Michael was out of town Sunday through Wednesday for work so I was on solo baby duty every night.  Thursday, I was in Missouri for another long day trip and then back on baby duty Friday during my mommy-Landry day.  This 10-week preggo booty is tired!

We fit in a lot of fun and firsts this week though.  One night I was craving pasta and ordered Landry tortellini.  She tried it and literally licked the bowl.  She ate more than me, which is hard these days.  On Friday I was craving sweets -- and more carbs -- and packed her up for a bakery run where she tasted her first vanilla cupcake.  

Clearly, I'm having some serious cravings.  I'm mostly in the mood for carbs and sugar, just like when I was preggo with Landry.  The one really weird one though is Indian food.  I've had chicken masala at least once a week and could eat it every night if Michael was game.  

I've been feeling pretty good although I got sick for the first time on Thursday.  My timing couldn't have been worse.  We were flying back from Missouri when I got suddenly nauseous just a few minutes from landing back in Dallas.  It was kind of funny, actually.  Jerry's assistant handed me a  Tiffany's bag to, well, you know.  When I was done, she gave me a monogrammed Cowboys towel to wipe my mouth and a Perrier to feel better.  Needless to say, it was the classiest way to loose my lunch!

Friday Landry had her 15 month checkup.  She's in the 75th percentile for height, 30th for weight and 97th for head circumference.  She got two shots and cried for a bit but was a total champ.  She passed the hearing and eyesight tests and "hit her 15 month milestones" except for walking.

She's really late to the walking game.  She's standing on her own all the time and will walk with a walker or holding my hands but she isn't interested in taking steps on her own.  She's actually scared by it often getting fussy or just plopping herself on the ground in refusal.  I'm working with her on it every day and hope she finds her footing soon.  She's getting heavy to carry around all the time!

Yesterday we spent a couple of hours in the pool with the peanut.  She was in heaven!  At night we hosted a dinner party with friends at the house.  I've been having friends over a lot lately because it's easy with the baby since we can just put her to bed and not worry about a sitter.  Paula and Todd came over with our friends Lauren and JJ.  Bradley joined us too since he's friends with Lo (she's his age and a fellow CA native).

Michael grilled chicken and I made some new summer salad sides from Martha Stewart.  Everything was delish!  As a thank you, Paula brought me a monogrammed zipper pouch made from vintage fabric she found at a local flea market.  She also gave me a DIY framed elephant print made with a pair of Landry's old bloomers.  It was the sweetest gift ever.  It's already in Landry's bookshelf and so special to me.  I have the sweetest and most thoughtful friends in the world.

This morning I took Landry on our routine Sunday morning walk.  We hiked to Highland Park Village where I attempted my first coffee in months.  I could only drink half but it was a start to kicking this first trimester funk.  Landry got a water and loved sipping from the big girl cup!  Afterwards we hit the park for some swing time, which she loved of course.

Tomorrow is my next doctor's appointment for baby #2.  I'll report back soon!

We had a wonderful weekend starting with a dinner party at the house on Friday with friends.  Saturday, Michael enjoyed a massage for Father's Day and we had a casual night at home with the string bean.  

I feel like she's turning into a big girl in front of my eyes these days.  This weekend we got her a toothbrush -- she now has three teeth coming in up top in addition to her two bottom guys -- and and she loves to brush her teeth!  I'm sure the watermelon toothpaste didn't hurt my cause (she inhaled a large tub of watermelon from Whole Foods in less than 24 hours this weekend).

She also had her first fish fry experience Saturday and loved every bite of shrimp and crab cake.  And to add to the list of firsts, I gave her a sip of my homemade strawberry milkshake today and she couldn't get enough!

Today I'm nine weeks and feeling great.  I'm completely showing and caved into some maternity denim shorts this week to handle this heat with a growing bump.  I'm still on a tall iced latte draught and can't stomach Mexican food.  Other than that, no complaints here!

Happy Father's Day to my husband, dad, father-in-law, and grandpas.  I'm so lucky to have such loving men in my life.  Love you all so much!

Yes, it's true.  We are expecting!

I've been debating to share the news on the blog, but by this point we've told nearly every family member and close friend.

On Mother's Day weekend I found out I was pregnant!  I couldn't think of a more perfect gift.

I had been feeling great but had a sneaky suspicion I had brought home more than jewelry from Harbour Island.  I had warned Michael that weekend so we took Landry to our favorite Mexican restaurant and ordered a margarita just in case it was my last sip of liquor for a while.

When we got home, the test was positive before I could even put it down on the counter.  Michael and I were both shocked!  We were completely amazed how easily we get preggo but nonetheless thrilled that it happened so fast for us.

Today I'm exactly eight weeks.  Baby #2 is due January 19th. It's still very early and anything could happen at this point.  But, with my trip to California the day after we found out the news and our busy social calendar, we've spilled the beans to our close circle and I couldn't keep writing without mentioning the biggest thing going on in our life right now!

So far I've been feeling pretty good with some occasional nausea (luckily I haven't lost my lunch yet).  I haven't been too tired, just a tad if I've had a long day.  Given some of the symptoms I've seen my friends experience, I can't complain.  I do miss my lattes, though!  I can't stand the thought of one right now.  It's been almost three weeks since I've had coffee and I miss it dearly!

I'm already showing and putting on the pounds, too.  To battle the nausea I have to constantly eat (just like with Landry!) so I've already gained about five pounds.  My mom could see my belly at just four weeks in California.  I'm already unpacking my maternity clothes as I'm sure I'll be unable to button my pants in a week or two.

My first appointment went really well.  We made it a family affair so Michael, Landry and I could all hear the heartbeat.  They took my blood tests the same day and I haven't heard anything since, which means I should be clear of any scares like last time.

I'm thrilled with the timing of the pregnancy as I was hoping to have another winter/early spring baby because the weather was perfect with Landry.  The only bummer is that we won't be able to spend Christmas in California but I'm excited to spend my first Christmas in Dallas and nest with the family when it's cold outside before baby #2 arrives.

As far as the sex, it's widely known that I've always wanted two girls.  But, Michael would love a boy and I would be just as thrilled if that's what's meant to be.  I truly don't care what we have; I just hope for another healthy, happy baby.  Although I must say I have a girls name ready to go.  If it's a boy, I have no clue what we will call the little guy.  Just four to eight more weeks and I'll find out what it is...

In other news, Landry got her first top tooth!  Friday morning she woke up with her left front tooth poking out of her little gums.  She did much better this time around and it looks like her two top fangs are going to arrive any day.

We had a ball this weekend.  Friday I took her on a walk and we fed the ducks at Lakeside Park.  Every time I tossed a piece of bread in the water I would hand her a piece to do the same.  But each time she opted to eat the bread instead.  It was pretty cute.

Afterwards we met Nicolette and Henry for a lunch date.  It's so fun to watch the kiddos interact.  Henry puts Landry to shame in the eating department (he eats more than me)!

Lately I've been introducing new foods to Landry.  She really loves macaroni and cheese (shocker) and watermelon.  Today at brunch I made her blueberry pancakes and she liked them a lot.  She's also become a big fan of french fries thanks to Mimi.

Yesterday we had a big family day.  We went to brunch with Bradley and then spent the afternoon in the pool.  Michael put her baby pool in the big pool and she floated around on her own little island.  She loved crawling around our sun deck and splashing in the fountain.  She spent two hours in the pool but could have easily stayed in another two or three.

Last night we took her to Nana and Grandpa's house to play while we had a quick date night.  Our dinner was wonderful, but boy do I miss my cocktails.  That is the only real complaint I have about pregnancy.  It's just not fair we can't drink when we need it most (especially with a 15 month old on my hip)!

Tomorrow I'm off to Missouri for another long day trip so I tried to take it easy today.  We cooked a big brunch at home and enjoyed some more pool time with the peanut.  We are soaking up every minute as a little family of three with another on the way soon!

This weekend was a total blast filled with fun times with friends.

Friday we had a play date with my friend Joanne and her daughter Alex.  When we got home I filled Landry's little baby pool with water and let her splash around the backyard.  She could spend all day in the water if I let her.  While filling the pool I turned my back for 30 seconds only to turn around to Landry with a mouth full of dirt.  She is getting into everything these days!

Saturday we took Landry to lunch, the park and then Babies 'R Us to snag a walker.  She's really trying to walk on her own so we decided to get yet another bulky contraption to make the experience a little more fun.  She's already learning how to use it, although she started by going backwards!  Although I'm in no rush to have her walking, I won't miss the leg bruises from all of this crawling business.

Saturday night Michael and I had a going away party for our friend Leah who is moving to Boston.  Nicolette hosted the fete, which was "Saudi chic" themed (Leah is Lebanese).  I was thrilled to dust off my metallic turban and Michael got another use out of his linen tunic we purchased in Morocco.  The party was a total blast -- belly dancers, hookah lounge, and all!

Sunday we met up with Ari and Jason for brunch at a new place in town.  Leila and Landry had a ball babbling back and forth and stealing each other's toys.  The weather was so beautiful we sat on the patio and just let the girls play while we all caught up.

Afterwards we visited Kari and Troy at their new place and met baby Tobin, who arrived a couple weeks early.  He's so tiny!  Landry looked like a giant next to him.  It's amazing how you forget how tiny they once were.  He's absolutely adorable and we look forward to many play dates ahead! Later in the day Nana and Grandpa watched the string bean for a few hours so we could see a movie.  She loves going to Nana and Grandpa's house (they have more toys than we do)!

Today she had her first swim class with Leila, Gabriella and Alex.  We had so much fun playing with the girls in the pool!  I wasn't surprised that Landry loved every second in the water.  She and Leila were the only kiddos of 8 to not cry.  She did so great from learning to kick her legs to taking a few plunges under the water.  She swallowed a few big gulps but was a total trooper.
