Happy New Year! It's hard to believe 2012 is coming to a close tonight. What a year the Cobb crew has had!
It's hard to think that I didn't know Landry face to face a year ago. She has brought so much light and joy to our lives and we are beyond blessed to wake up to her huge smile each and every morning.
We just got back from a couple weeks in California. We spent loads of time with family and friends and Michael and I even took a couple nights off from parent duty for a little Palm Springs getaway while my parents watched the peanut.
But before I get ahead of myself, I have some catching up to do! (New Years Resolution #99: Blog more!) Since my last post, we enjoyed Thanksgiving with my in-laws in Dallas and celebrated The Dallas Flea's third anniversary on December 1st.
Over the past couple months, Landry has made a lot of changes. Her hair is getting thicker and longer. She's learned to eat pureed foods like a champ and particularly loves when I make her broccoli-celery-carrot. I ate so much broccoli while pregnant and breast feeding I wonder if there's a connection...
She now sits up completely on her own. If you hold her above the ground she's starting to lock her legs straight. She doesn't really have any interest in crawling yet. And, still, no teeth.
On December 13th we had her nine-month check-up appointment. She's in the 95th percentile for height, 45th for weight and 75th for head circumference. Dr. Watkins said that everything looked good and not to worry about her lack of teeth (and excess of drool!). She took her flu shot like a pro, too.
We spent lots of time with friends before leaving town for the holidays. We had a couple dinner dates with Ariana, Jason and Leila. Watching the two girls together is so fun. Leila is getting so big; she's already had three haircuts! One night Michael and I went to a black tie ball in honor of friend -- it was so fun to get dressed up and stay up late with pals sans peanut!
The mingling continued in California, too. I got to meet my childhood friend Samantha's three month old daughter Cate. We had a couple walk/coffee dates. It was surreal to catch up with our sweet little girls by our side! I also got to see a dear college buddy for lunch one day, breakfast with my longest childhood friend that lives in D.C., dinner with Maggee, and my high school bestie Marilee. Landry was so great moving and shaking around town to meet everyone!
The week before Michael arrived I had a lot of quality time with Landry, which was so so blissful. I strapped her in the baby Bjorn and took her to some of my favorite home shops where I found some great treasures (chunks of coral, Murano glass bowls, a book of old Vogue prints) for the house. My mom and I strolled her around town from Fashion Island to antique malls at Old Orange. It was so fun to put down the computer and just hang out with my girl. Landry is such an easy traveler and enjoys the outings smiling all along the way. We are so lucky to have such an easy, happy baby!
When Michael arrived we took her to meet Santa for the second time (the first was at Neiman Marcus in downtown Dallas after lunch with Tracy and Jon). She wasn't afraid a bit and we got several photos of her smiling at him and even a couple of her touching his beard. She was very curious around them.
We also spent lots of time with family. Landry got quality time with her great grandparents, great aunts and uncles, Mimi, Papa, and Uncle Bradley and Ryan. Ryan hadn't seen her since she was just a week old! We had so much fun with her, especially making her belly laugh which she does often. My dad can really get her roaring!
Christmas morning Landry was darling opening all of her presents. I had a pair of vintage cowboy boots handpainted for her with her monogram. Mimi and Papa showered her with cute clothes and toys. She had just as much fun playing with the wrapping paper and tissue as the gifts.
I was all about the meaningful gifts this year (hence the custom boots). I made my parents a large shell box from hundreds of shells I've collected from stores over the past year. It will be perfect in their new house, which should be done by March. I also made them custom coffee mugs with Landry's photos over the year and made Mimi and locket with two of her favorite photos of the peanut. I found my brothers some original artwork that I thought reflected them. Michael didn't get anything as personal as he needed new blazers but he did get some monogrammed stationery.
Tonight we had plans to ring in the new year with Paula, Todd and the twins but Gabriella has a cold so we all thought it would be best to cancel. So, Michael and I decided to enjoy a cozy night at home with the boo. The champagne is chilling and he brought home a movie we've been wanting to watch for a while.
Three years ago today he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him on a cold, chilly night at the cabin in East Texas. What a fun ride it's been since then. It will be hard to beat 2012, but I'm looking forward to starting a fresh new year.
